Official Rules
Overview: The Grand Slam Challenge is a fun Fantasy League in which competitors use an allotted budget of 300 points to select a roster of six golfers at each of golf's four Majors: the Masters, PGA Championship, US Open and the Open Championship (British). The roster with the best combined score in relation to par wins. Each entrant will get to choose a new team for each Major and your overall total for the four events will be tallied to crown the winner of the GSC Cup. The Top 150 Cup finishers advance to the Playoffs, where we narrow the field each week until arriving at the Pool Championship with 40 lucky entrants.
Adjusted Cut: Golfers who miss the cut will have their scores adjusted for any unplayed rounds according to the average score of OUR field for that day, rounded up, plus one. Ex: if the average score is +2.23, it will be rounded UP to +3 and then an additional stroke will be added for a +4. All MCs will record a +4 that day. If the field average is below par, there could be no penalty, but under no circumstance will an MC be given a minus score, zero is the limit. It is important to note that the "field" means all golfers selected in the pool, not the entire field in the tournament (if they're not picked, they don't exist to us).
Withdrawals/DQs: If a golfer you have selected withdraws or is disqualified, he will get whatever his score was at the time of withdrawal or DQ, plus he will be subject to a prorated adjusted cut for any rounds of less than 18 holes, always rounding up. Ex: golfer is +3 for the day and quits after 9 holes. He keeps that +3 and then is also subject to half the total of the Adjusted Cut for the unplayed holes. So if the AC was +4, you golfer would record a +5 (the +3 he actually scored on the front, plus +2 for a prorated portion of the AC for the back).
IF you select a golfer who withdraws before teeing off you may replace even after the first group has teed off with a one-for-one switch within budget for a golfer who has not yet teed off. If your golfer is 36 points, but you had only used 296 on your original roster, you may still use the other 4 points and have 40 points to spend on the replacement. This is only if the golfer withdraws without taking a single shot and the replacement must be one for one, you can not shake up your entire roster. The best way to make a replacement is emailing me direct at dmdsg@mac.com or posting to the @gsccup page on X so there will be a timestamp. If I notice a WD I do whatever I can to notify the group, but it is up to you. If you do not notice it in time, then you keep the WD and his score is handled by the Adjusted Cut all 4 days.
Late entries: With the introduction of automated selection in 2014 the deadline is now tee time. But you are encouraged to still submit by Wednesday midnight. Starting at noon Wednesday an automated email will be sent every 6 hours to all entrants who have not submitted. If you fail to submit your roster, your team will be picked for you, but this is meant to be an emergency and hopefully one-time courtesy. Do not make it a habit. The process is to keep your previous roster as much as possible, then roll dice to select from golfers at the remaining point value. This process is unofficial, if you don’t submit you get what you get.
Tie-breaker: First tie-breaker is least number of cut golfers; second tie-breaker is having winning golfer on roster. After that, it’s a tie. Same tiebreaker for GSC Cup (total cuts and total number of winners).
Playoffs: If one of your golfers is involved in a playoff, scores on the extra holes do not count. The only benefit that can occur in a Playoff is if your golfer wins it could help you win the second tie-break.
